Saturday, December 5

Arsenal 3-1 Sunderland (3-1) Referee: Robert Madley

Chelsea 0-1 Bournemouth (1-0) Referee: Mike Jones
Unlucky Cherries. Not only is Murray offside for that later winner but King clearly handballs Diego Costa’s cross earlier in the second half. That’s a penalty for Chelsea as every pundit agrees. Jose Mourinho can rightly claim his English champions are NOW FOUR points worse off than they should be. Whether that would be enough to silence Red Rom’s snipers is not very clear but you imagine it would no harm. Mr Jones, though, will continue to unhinge and unsettle Premier League mangers and boardrooms with below par officiating.

Manchester United 0-0 West Ham (0-0) Referee: Mark Clattenburg

Southampton 1-1 Aston Villa (1-1) Referee: Anthony Taylor

Stoke City 2-0 Manchester City (2-0) Referee: Martin Atkinson

Swansea 0-3 Leicester City (0-2) Referee: Michael Oliver
Mahrez is offside by a yard for the Foxes’ killer second before break in a match that ultimately means there is ‘no way back’ for Garry Monk as the Swansea boss.

Watford 2-0 Norwich (2-0) Referee: Mike Dean
Definitely a penalty for Watford’s opener but have to say Igahalo is unfortunate to be flagged offside when thinking he’s made it 2-0 in first half. It’s very close, so we will go with lino call on this occasion as it makes no difference to result or points taken – and the TV replay angle we get to see was a little inconclusive.

West Brom 1-1 Tottenham (1-1) Referee: Jonathan Moss

Sunday, December 6

Newcastle 2-1 Liverpool (2-1) Referee: Andre Marriner
Do we let the Spanish left back’s volleyed equaliser for Liverpool stand? It’s another of those dodgy offside decisions which the TV replay shows in an instant to be wrong. The fact is Magpie keeper Elliott does everything to stop the amazing first-time strike even if he later claims they knew it was offside. What we will say here is that the Scouser is probably the one person who does see the flag and therefore relaxes and catches the ball perfectly, under no pressure or illusion that it will count. Had there been no flag, the ball would surely have ended up in row Z, such is the different mentality of the player who knows his shot will count compared to when it does not matter one iota. But that is getting too hypothetical, even for the HPL, so goal given.

Monday, December 7

Everton 1-1 Crystal Palace (1-1) Referee: Craig Pawson
