Struggling Swans denied festive hand-up.

HPL result is shown in brackets, official real-life score first.

Games with an HPL scoreline change in red.

Saturday, December 19

Everton 2-3 Leicester City (2-3) Referee: Jonathan Moss
HPL is not so sure about the Howard foul on Vardy for the second Mahrez penalty as the Leicester striker certainly sticks the foot out and makes a meal of the minor contact, flinging himself in a theatrical second movement after the actual event. Nevertheless, the Everton keeper is his own worst enemy, flying out as he does and failing to get the anywhere near the ball. Martin Keown on MOTD reckons: “It’s a 100 per cent penalty.’ So that’s good enough for us, on this occasion. No more HPL damage for the Foxes.

Manchester United 1-2 Norwich (1-2) Referee: Michael Oliver

Chelsea 3-1 Sunderland (3-1) Referee: Roger East

Newcastle 1-1 Aston Villa (1-1) Referee: Martin Atkinson

Southampton 0-2 Tottenham (0-2) Referee: Kevin Friend

West Brom 1-2 Bournemouth (1-2) Referee: Mike Dean
The rule is that even if the foul starts outside the area the referee can decree it is a penalty if he believes the foul continues once inside it. Dean decides to go with this interpretation, and rightly so. Nearly all the press at the game felt the same. It stands. The Cherries make it three wins on the spin.

Stoke City 1-2 Crystal Palace (0-2) Referee: Robert Madley
It looks a little soft, the Palace penalty, in that the challenge is somewhat innocuous. Yet Whelan does kick Saha’s foot. Why he made the challenge is more to the point. For as proved, the tackle is fraught with danger and carries very little reward given Saha is going nowhere on the right-hand side of the box. No way should the Delaney handball be a penalty for Stoke, though. He misses the ball with his head, and the then-dropping ball strikes the left hand down by his side. This cannot be deemed deliberate.

Sunday, December 20

Watford 3-0 Liverpool (2-0) Referee: Mark Clattenburg
Does Bogdan have the ball in his hands and under control before it is booted into the back of the net for Watford’s opener?  HPL hasto say the Liverpool keeper did, a view shared by both Martin Keown and Phil Neville on the Beeb’s pre-Christmas Match of the Day cracker. So Clattenburg’s call is overruled. This does not stop it being a ‘welcome to the 21st century’ moment at Vicarage Road as the Hornets take out Liverpool for the first time this Millennium.

Swansea City 0-0 West Ham (1-0) Referee: Lee Mason
That for HPL is a definite handball by West Ham defender Collins when blocking a goal-bound shot and should have been a penalty for the Welsh club. Keown agrees, saying: “He’s got away with one.”

Monday, December 21

Arsenal 2-1 Manchester City (2-1) Referee: Andre Marriner
