Monday, December 28

Arsenal 2-0 Bournemouth (2-0) Referee: Roger East

Crystal Palace 0-0 Swansea City (0-0) Referee: Neil Swarbrick

Everton 3-4 Stoke City (3-3) Referee: Mark Clattenburg
HPL agrees wholeheartedly with Alan Shearer when he declares Stoke’s late penalty winner null and void, citing the fact Stones plays the ball before Arnautovic collapses, rather conveniently, over the unfortunate England defender.

Manchester United 0-0 Chelsea (1-0) Referee: Martin Atkinson
BT Sport having ex-referee Howard Webb ‘downstairs’ watching video replays during the game is a fine idea because it illustrates how swiftly incidents could be checked by a TV ref. He says no penalty for Martial’s first-half tumble in the box – as does Martin Atkinson, maintaining his record of having not given a spot kick in the league this season, which is almost as amazing as United’s adventurous approach in this crunch game for their manager LVG. However, that Atkinson sequence should have been broken in the second half when Willian handles the ball in the area – a clear penalty according to Webb, who picks the Chelsea man moving his left arm up to control the ball.

Norwich 2-0 Aston Villa (2-0) Referee: Graham Scott

Watford 1-2 Tottenham (1-1) Referee: Anthony Taylor
The Tottenham winner against ten-man Watford should not have stood as Son is offside first-time round when challenging the keeper, proved by Match of the Day slide-ruler. So whereas technology helps prevent an unjust goal at one end – with the goalline system ruling out Watson’s corner by no more than the width of a high-fibre cable, it is unable to do anything about an equally unjust goal at the other. Strange times, to be rectified one day – two years down the line, I reckon!.

West Brom 1-0 Newcastle (1-1) Referee: Mike Jones
Mitrovic being held back by Evans is a nailed-on Newcastle penalty – missed by Jones. Tony Pulis will no doubt protest this evens up a mere one week’s worth of poor decisions that have cost West Brom so dear for so much of the campaign.

West Ham 2-1 Southampton (2-1) Referee: Michael Oliver

Tuesday, December 29

Leicester City 0-0 Manchester City (0-0) Referee: Craig Pawson

Wednesday, December 30

Sunderland 0-1 Liverpool (0-1) Referee: Kevin Friend
